SYN’s Dance Night 2009

Posted by Angelo in On Air, SYN

There are some exciting changes and happenings on SYN’s Dance Night in 2009, and I’d love to share a few of them with you.

But before we can progress with what is planned in 2009, we must reflect on the year that it has been. So let’s begin:

  1. He never really introduced himself officially, but I did have the pleasure of working alongside Tom Gangemi this year. Unfortunately, Tom has decided not to continue as executive producer for SYN’s Dance Night - but will be around in a consulting position, as well as still on air with Cognition Radio.
  2. Cognition Radio Blog launched. 60 posts later, and surprisingly, we can still afford our hosting bills and we’re still around to compliment our on air presence. Good on us.
  3. Cognition Radio Download Section was built and launched in beta testing phase. Although not available to the public yet (unfortunately), we’ve ironed out majority of the bugs that were preventing us from launching as we initially planned.
  4. Interviews and guests have been coming out of our… ears. This year, SYN’s Dance Night spoke to Vandalism, The Ian Carey Project, The Death Set, Dirty Laundry, Richard Sen, Apollo Kids, Kaz James, Rico Tubbs and TV Rock… just to name a few.
  5. We (kinda) launched “SYN’s Dance Night Unsigned Music Initiative”. Although the press release was never officially distributed, the take-up has been quite awesome- keep your eyes peeled for more in 2009.
  6. Escape Underage. Enough said. Some things work. Others don’t.
  7. We produced well over 360 hours worth of radio for the year. That’s 21,600 minutes and 1,296,000 seconds worth of on air radio time. Granted, we’ve had at least 40 seconds of dead air over the last year - that is a wooping amount of time to fill with content, music and guests. We pulled it off - and we’ve got another 1,296,000 seconds of on air time to look forward to in 2009.
  8. Over the year, we’ve had around 360 hours of off-air preparation time taking up our week.
  9. 1,323 WordPress ’spam’ comments were blocked by Akismet this year.
  10. Successfully migrated all our office and email communications to Google Apps, and our website hosting to COVE.
  11. Sent over 5,768 email messages, and used over 5GB for email storage and transmission. Used over 12.03GB of disk space for Cognition Radio Blog and Cognition Radio Download Section. Had over 11.06 GB of data downloaded (from Aug 2008) just on the Cognition Radio Blog alone. More than 23,843 unique eyes have laid eyes on this blog this year.

There are a few things missing from the list above - mainly the fact that every week on SYN’s Dance Night should be listed - but we can’t do that… because I said so.

So where to in 2009? Give me the top four awesome(ness) things that we’ve got planned:

  1. Everybody is doing it - so we’re doing it to! Cognition Radio Blog is going to undergo a facial reconstruction. That’s right. We’re re-developing and designing our blog in 2009.
  2. Cognition Radio Download Section will launch, with seamless integration with iTunes. Did I mention it will be completely free?
  3. A unique weekly guest interview and mix. That’s it. Now I’ve said it. We’ll have at least one unique guest each week on SYN’s Dance Night.
  4. SYN’s Dance Night Unsigned Music Initiative is in need of a new name… Urh, no, that isn’t what is on my planning sheet. Oh, that’s right. We’ll distribute the press releases and we’ll get one lucky (and hopefully good) unsigned producer signed onto a label. Exciting? Know somebody that it could be? Shoot us an email at unsigned@cognitionradio.com.au and we’ll forward you the relevant information. If not - keep your eyes peeled right here.

That is all I can say. Until then, my lips are sealed on the rest of the upcoming stuff in 2009.

I suppose you’ll have to tune into SYN’s Dance Night on 90.7FM every Friday Night starting at 8pm to find out the rest. ;)

SYN’s Dance Night Lineup

Posted by Angelo in On Air

I’ll start this post by saying that I’m so happy that we’re back for another block. :-D

Although we’ve changed from our previous slot, to a new shiny time of 8:00pm on SYN’s Dance Night (which is Friday night on SYN 90.7FM), this enables us to play more housey stuff - exactly what I like.

The lineup for SYN’s Dance Night (Friday nights on SYN 90.7FM) is:

8pm: Cognition Radio, with Tom and Ange.
9pm: Deep Audio, with Vic.
10pm: Two Hours To Funk, with Aaron (from ”AACE’s Mix Up”).
12am: SYN’s Harder Generation, get shuffling!
2am: Dance All Night, till 6am… so ‘all night’ not ‘all day’.

I’ve got some extremely exciting news about a new initiviate that SYN’s Dance Night is running, but I’ll post that within the next few days (when all the details are finalised and sorted). Stay tuned! ;-)
